365 Days of Middle-earth ~ Day 37: The Elendil Stone

The Elendil Stone, also known as the Seeing-stone of Emyn Beraid, was one of the seven palantíri brought by Elendil to Middle-earth. It was housed in the Elf-tower of Elositirion among the Tower Hills west of the Shire. Unlike the other six Stones, it could not be used to communicate with other palantíri, or to observe events in Middle-earth. Instead, it was aligned westwards, so that Elendil or his Heirs could see along the Straight Road to the shores of the Blessed Realm, their vision reaching as far as the haven of Avallónë on Tol Eressëa.

The Elendil Stone remained in its tower throughout the Third Age, but was taken back into the West aboard the White Ship when the Age had come to an end.
