365 Days of Middle-earth ~ Day 141: Rauros

During the Third Age, the greatest waterfall in all of Middle-earth was Rauros (S. ‘Roaring spray’), which flowed from the Anduin River. So great were the falls that the roar of its waters could be heard from many leagues away. In peaceful times, the Falls of Rauros was a place visited by the nobles of Gondor, as the sound of the Falls and the golden light on their spray provided a pleasant atmosphere. After the breaking of the Fellowship of the Ring, Boromir’s body was placed in a boat and sent over the Falls; it was later found by his brother, Faramir.
