365 Days of Middle-earth ~ Day 338: Orkish

The language used by the Orcs, composed mainly of bits and pieces of other languages crudely put together, was known as Orkish (see also: Black Speech). Communication among tribes used a corrupted form of Westron, with some words being derived from the Black Speech or a debased form. The tongues were known for being rich in curses but weak in terms of grammar. The languages were so different and jumbled among the various tribes that communication was nearly impossible; thus Sauron devised the Black Speech as the standard language for his purpose in Mordor, with the Common Tongue (Westron) being more commonly used otherwise.
