On this day in 1892, John Ronald Ruel Tolkien was born in Blomfontein, South Africa to Arthur and Mabel Tolkien. Today marks the 124th anniversary of his birth, and in a tradition started by the Tolkien Society, we raise a glass in toast ('
The Professor!') at 9pm local time.
Many thanks to the Professor for bringing Middle-earth to life and giving us all a safe haven to get lost in. Without him, I would not have half of the friends I do today, and my life would be drastically different.
